1. WELCOME
Jeff Watkins, UEC Chair, called the meeting to order at 12:09 p.m.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - March 3, 2004
Motion: Ken Randle moved to approve the minutes. David Merrill seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved.
3. FINANCIAL REPORT - Wendy Grosvenor
There was no financial report due to Wendy’s absence. Wendy said she would e-mail one out within the next week. We’ll have to follow-up with that. Linda has the checkbook. She needs to pay the Utah Food Services bill as well as Carl’s bill for the awards.
4. UTOPIA PRESENTATION
There was no Utopia presentation. There was a little bit of discussion about Utopia. They want to use taxpayer dollars to guarantee the project of getting fiber optics into Utah homes. Jeff said an engineering firm out of American Fork contacted UEC and seemed to be doing the master planning on that.
5. COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Publication Committee - Jim Belshe: Jim was not in attendance. He has been talking and negotiating with McGraw-Hill. He has some concerns that he will discuss with us at our May meeting. We talked about having a directory of companies, but there is some concern that there may be a conflict with ACEC on that. Bob Davis from ACEC said that they have tried to not be in conflict with the UEC Journal. This year, for the first time, ACEC published a directory of their consulting engineer firms and they went through McGraw-Hill. They were concerned about the advertising and how that would come out, but it worked out pretty well for them. Bob said he could comment on it further at the May meeting. There are more Journals from this year available if anyone would like them. Jeff asked if there has been any feedback from the high schools on the Journals that were delivered.
B. E-Week - Linda Bachmeier: Jeff spoke with Linda on the phone. She suggested that we stay with the Union Pacific facility at the Gateway. 400 is the maximum the facility would handle. We served 311 meals, so we still have some room to grow. We need to reserve that venue for next year. Paul Oestreich will need to make the reservation. The banquet next year will be on February 24, 2005 (Thursday).
C. Membership Committee - Jay Nelson: Jay was not in attendance. He sent an e-mail to Susan and said he did not have anything to report.
D. Nominating Committee - Sarah Winkler: The nominations are as follows:
Chair: Linda Bachmeier Vice-Chair: Paul Oestreich Treasurer: Dale Bennett
Motion: Ken Randle moved to close the nominations. Carl Cook seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
The vote was unanimously in favor of the slate of nominees, so the new officers will be as listed above.
6. DOPL NOMINATIONS
The positions currently available for nominations are: UBCC Electrical Advisory Committee UBCC Mechanical Advisory Committee Professional Engineers/Professional Land Surveyors Licensing Board - currently Barry Anderson, but he is not eligible for reappointment to the board Professional Engineers/Professional Land Surveyors Licensing Board - currently Charles Henry Richardson, PE, but he is also not eligible for reappointment
If anyone has any suggestions for nominations, they are due April 16, so they need to be turned in right away.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
We will need a new fund-raising chair. Ken Randle passed out the final fund-raising report. We had a very successful year. Ken said we need to establish a separate scholarship fund. It should have $4,000 in it. Dale will need to work with Wendy to get his name on the accounts and will need to open a separate scholarship account.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Motion: Carl Cook moved to adjourn the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
