1.        WELCOME

Jeff Watkins, UEC Chair, called the meeting to order at 12:05 p.m.

2.        APPROVAL OF MINUTES - April 7, 2004

Motion:        Carl Cook moved to approve the minutes.  Dale Bennett seconded the motion.  The
minutes were unanimously approved.

3.        FINANCIAL REPORT - Wendy Grosvenor

Wendy passed out a financial report.  Society dues show a shortfall due to two societies dropping their
memberships.  Interest income is not up to date.  Wendy will try to catch up on the bank statements.
Journal assessment differences are also due to the two dropped memberships.  Wendy has 9 banquet
tickets still outstanding for which she needs to receive payment.

There will be some more secretarial expenses coming in.  The web fees will go through the summer -
they are monthly.  Wendy’s report shows us a little under budget, but her numbers were not correct.
We’re really within budget and have about $2,208 as our ending balance.

$4,000 in scholarship money needs to be moved into a separate account.

Motion:        Linda moved to approve the financial report with the corrections in the ending balance.
Carl Eriksson seconded the motion.  The motion was unanimously approved.

Wendy will get the information into Quicken before the auditing committee meets.

4.        COMMITTEE REPORTS

    A.        Publication Committee - Jim Belshe: Sarah, Jeff and Jim have discussed what to do with the
Journal for next year and they are looking at a company called Newsletters, Inc.  The reason they are
considering this company rather than Intermountain Contractor is because Intermountain Contractor
changed their offer and wants UEC to pay $3,000 to do the Journal without the directory.  Newsletters,
Inc. is apparently willing to do the Journal and all the work without us having to sell any advertising and
they would be self-sustaining, we would not have to pay them anything.  The advantage of going with
Intermountain Contractor is that they would be sending the Journal to other people outside of the UEC
mailing list, so it could be used as more of a marketing-type thing, but we may not be able to afford to
do that.

Susan asked if Sarah and Jim had looked further into the offerings of Wasatch Mountain
Publishing.  Sarah talked with the person there and she was interested in how the selling of the ads was
going this year, so they seemed to want to wait and see what happens.  We will keep this one in mind if
things with Newsletters, Inc. don’t work out.  Jim will contact them and see if they have an offer.

Newsletters, Inc. say that they will use the ad sales to cover their costs and whatever is left
over, they split in half - they get half and we get half.

Which proposal we accept will be discussed with the Executive Committee and the Publication
Chair during the summer months.  They will decide which direction to go.

USU’s bridge team won the 2004 competition and would like that mentioned in next year’s
Journal.  The information was given to Jim Belshe.

    B.        E-Week - Paul Oestreich: Paul will get the contact information from Linda for the Union
Pacific venue and will make the reservation for next year as soon as possible.

5.        APPOINTMENT OF AUDIT COMMITTEE

The audit committee will consist of the following individuals: Linda Bachmeier, Jeff Watkins, Paul
Oestreich and Dale Bennett.  Dale will be the chair.  The meeting for the audit committee has been set
for June 11, 2004, 2:30 p.m. at Van Boerum & Frank.  We need to make sure Dale Bennett is put on
the bank accounts as a signer and Jeff is taken off.

6.        OTHER BUSINESS

Wendy has a box of records that needs to be put someplace for storage.  She will give the box to Dale
and he can decide if it needs to be stored or if it can be thrown out.

7.        TURN MEETING OVER TO NEW OFFICERS - JEFF WATKINS

Jeff thanked everyone for their hard work and turned the meeting over to the new officers.

Motion:        Carl Cook moved to commend Jeff for a great job this year.  Carl Eriksson seconded the
motion.

8.        ADJOURNMENT

Motion:        Jeff Watkins moved to adjourn the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
